Precipitated Barium Sulfate

Molecular formula: BaSO4
HS code: 28332700
CAS No.: 7727-43-7
EINECS No: 231-784-4

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Precipitated barium sulfate is a kind of material with environmental protection function due to its strong chemical inertness, good stability, acid and alkali resistance, moderate hardness, high whiteness, high luster, and the ability to absorb harmful x-rays. As a result, it is widely used in various coatings, PCB inks, color printing inks, modified plastics, high-gloss PP, transparent masterbatch, color masterbatch, elastomer, chemical fiber, paper, cosmetics and other fillers. Also can be used as fluoroscopy of the stomach when the agent (called barium meal), the cathode of the battery expansion stick.

ADVANTAGES:

1. Filler

Barium sulfate is commonly used as a filler for plastics to increase the density of the polymer in vibrational mass damping applications. In polypropylene and polystyrene plastics, it is used as a filler in proportions up to 70%. It has an effect of increasing acid and alkali resistance and opacity.

Barium Sulfate can effectively increase crystalline of thermoplastic polymer, so as to improve the strength and geometrical stability of products, Rubber Grade, Engineering plastic, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) plastics,.

2. Functional Material

The precipitated barium sulfate has strong chemical inertness, good stability, acid and alkali resistance, moderate hardness, high whiteness, high gloss and the ability to absorb harmful x, γ-ray, as well as other advantages. It is an environmentally friendly functional material. It is widely used for a variety of coatings (water-based, oil-based and powder coatings, such as automotive paint, wood paint, exterior wall paint, anticorrosive paint, high-gloss paint, electronic ink and printing ink, etc.), modified plastics (PA, PBT, PET, PC, POM, PMMA, PP, ABS, PE, PS, automotive plastics, appliance housings, films and building materials, plastics, etc.), rubber, elastomers, paper, cosmetics fillers. It can also be used as the agent for stomach when swallowed (called barium meal), the battery cathode expansion rod, the glaze materials to manufacture ceramic and enamel, the surface coating agent of printing paper and coated paper, the sizing agent used in textile industry, the clarifying agent for glass, and it can play part of defoaming and increasing the gloss effect.

As an anti-radiation protective wall material, it can be used in nuclear facilities, atomic power plants and X-ray laboratories, etc. to provide a good shielding effect. With the X-ray developing feature, it can be used in the medical developing fiber and the children’s toys. For drains, speakers and audio, it can effectively cut off the noise. It can also be used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical chemicals, and the flavors and pigments industry.

3. Coating / Powder Coating

As a filler, Barium Sulfate is better than other filling materials. Especially for the coating of chemical resistance. It is insoluble in water, acid, alkali and organic solvent. It has an excellent gloss and high fineness of particles. It makes surface hardness is increased and color stability.

Thin film powder paint and coatings for white applications benefit from the use of Barium Sulfate, which has been traditionally used as a white extender that both increases specific gravity and improves the chemical resistance of the surface coating.

4. Masterbatch

I. It has an arrow particle size distribution curve, which forms the best half-wavelength ratio and has excellent penetrability to visible light waves.

II. The spherical crystal structure prepared by the sulfuric acid method is more conducive to the diffraction of light.

III. Precipitated Barium Sulfate has a unique refractive index property which is similar to the refractive index of PE material. Therefore, Precipitated Barium Sulfate has been successfully applied to high transparency blown film or tape cast polyolefin film products, providing excellent optical properties and opening effect.

IV. Barium Sulfate is an inert extender which has a low oil absorption, which means the coating has only a slight reduction in flow and smoothness even at higher levels, such as 50 PHR or 33 percent loading.

V. Barium Sulfate has a Mohs hardness of 3 and is very low in abrasion.

VI. Barium Sulfate exhibits a continuous, high diffuse reflectance of light, in the visible range, and also in UV and IR ranges.

VII. Barium Sulfate is the standard for measuring whiteness.
